Amanda Parer Head Shot 1(SMALL)

Tasmanian artist Amanda Parer’s edgy and ephemeral paintings explore the natural world and its fragility, with startlingly beautiful creatures enlarged and frozen against their chosen habitat. When viewing one of these iconic rabbits or foxes inhabiting a beautifully haunting landscape, the environmental message is enhanced by the artist’s finely crafted, traditional oil painting technique. Parer is an emerging artist from Tasmania where her work is gaining recognition from both public and private collectors. She has been selected for the Blake Prize in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as for the Glover Prize in 2008, 2012 & 2013. Parer comes from an artistic family – she is the great grandniece of Damien Parer, who won the first Australian Oscar for his documentary of the battle of Kokoda, and niece to David Parer, producer of wildlife documentaries.
The artist has been invited to show work at the Asia Contemporary Art Show in Hong Kong in 2014; being launched in conjunction with Art Basel Hong Kong.
