"Landscape + Animals – Part 1" @ HARVEY GALLERIES MOSMAN, 26 Jun - 7 July 2020
All animals, particularly those in the wild have a different consciousness to humans. Humans observe nature, animals 'are' nature. The life and death of a wild animal is the result of their vestal obedience and implicit faith in the law of the land. With a knowledge unknown to us, and metaphysical senses and skills, animals work close with the systems and rhythms of the planet's seasons and often capricious weather. From the smallest insect to the gigantic blue whale, animals have a 'yin yang' union with mother Earth, a finely tuned balance of primal and sophisticated. Animals are noble and enlightened beings, they remind me, that just being here is a strange and deep mystery. The mind blowing truth is, the planet we all live on is permanently roaring through space at 107,000 kms per hour as we circle the sun, and at the same time, Earth is turning a full 360 degrees on it's own axis, this mighty rotation takes 24hours, and gives us night and day...When the staggering power and reality of this sinks in, nothing can ever be the same again....
I live in hope, that there will come a day when the cruelty, and needless killing of animals will stop. The failure to realise the spiritual gravity and physical importance of animals has made us sick. We have sailed into the doldrums, but our evolution voyage is far from over. Imagine if man didn't believe he had dominion over the animals. Imagine if humans and animals could live their fleeting lives in harmony with the planet, and each other. If this was so, surely our world would be a much better, and nicer place to be, deep down I have the feeling that this was the way it was intended to be...
The biggest challenge, for me when making art is to be as truthful as possible..."
