Anita West TVH Exhibition 2012

Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery proudly presents to you Anita West’s Exhibition: In the Summertime

“This year I have concentrated my studio time on recording and documenting life on the beach. My children are members of the North Stradbroke Island Surf Life Saving Club and so many of our holidays and weekends have been spent swimming in the surf , sitting under umbrellas at carnivals and being involved in beach activities over the summer months. I have plenty of memories to draw upon of a very Australian childhood at the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and leisurely visits to Sydney beaches.

Beach holidays are such an Australian iconic pastime and many artists over the years have approached the challenge of recording new ways of representing our love of life on the beach. In many ways it is the perfect subject matter to experiment with the elements and principles of art ; such as colour, line, composition, organic and man-made forms all competing with each other for attention. But I am really trying to express how I feel about those experiences of being with my family in an environment that is so familiar and so ordinary and yet awash with sublime beauty, peace and fun.”
