A$7,500 Buy NowEvelyn Pultara (born c.1940) is a senior Anmatyerr artist from the Utopia region of Central Australia. Born at Woodgreen Station, near Utopia, she comes from a distinguished artistic lineage as the niece of celebrated artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye and sister of artist Greeny Purvis Pultara.
A senior custodian of the Bush Yam (Anaty) Dreaming, Evelyn’s paintings are deeply connected to the stories, plants and landscapes of her ancestral Country. She began painting in 1997, initially depicting bush foods and Awelye (women’s ceremonial body designs), before dedicating her practice exclusively to the Bush Yam story.
Evelyn’s works are characterised by delicate layers of colour, intricate patterning and a quiet sense of movement that reflects the growth, energy and spiritual importance of the yam within Anmatyerr culture. Her paintings embody the connection between Country, ceremony and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations.
A reserved and thoughtful artist, Evelyn allows her paintings to communicate the stories and rhythms of her Country. Her work has been exhibited widely and is recognised as an important contribution to the Utopia art movement and contemporary Aboriginal art.
