Land | Sea | Air brings together artists Yvonne Gallagher, John Martono, Belinda Nadwie, Kate Pittas and Jude Rose, whose practices explore the elemental forces that shape our natural world and our experience of place.
Each artist approaches the environment from a distinct perspective. Atmosphere, landscape and water emerge not as literal depictions but as sensations – shifts in light, movement across a surface, the density or openness of space. Through detail, abstraction and suggestion, their works evoke the changing rhythms of air, the grounding presence of land, and the restless energy of the sea.
Together, the paintings in Land | Sea | Air reflect on the elemental structures that surround us, inviting viewers to consider how these forces are felt, remembered and reimagined through the language of paint.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Belinda Nadwie creates art that explores the intersection of the visible and the unseen, where energy, emotion, and spirit converge. With a deep belief in the power of art as a conduit for connection, Belinda views each painting as more than just a visual expression. It is a space where intuition guides every brushstroke, often channelling messages or energies that resonate on a deeply personal level.
While every piece reflects Belinda’s artistic vision, there are moments when the connection to something greater becomes undeniable. Certain works are experienced as clear messages or reminders for those who encounter them, often evoking memories of loved ones or serving as a bridge between the earthly and the spiritual. This unique ability to channel energy through art is something Belinda considers a gift, and the profound emotional responses that the paintings invoke in viewers affirm the artist’s sense of purpose.
Belinda believes that art is a spiritual experience, a means of healing, remembrance, and transformation. Through each painting, Belinda creates a space where viewers can reflect on their own experiences, find comfort, or receive the subtle messages that exist beyond the physical world.

An established Australian mid-career artist specializing in watercolour and pencil on birchwood panels and oils on canvas. Jude was previously known for her vivid hand coloured linocuts and ink drawings on hand made paper.
Born in Darwin NT, travelled extensively throughout Europe, South America, Africa and Asia to study art, including two years at Beaux Arts in Paris.
Returned to Sydney and studied at various colleges including Julian Ashton Art School. In 1982 during her early career Jude designed a Commonwealth Games swimsuit fabric.
Jude’s works are the result of studying in a traditional Parisian art school and later the Italian persuasion of Francis Giacco at Julian Ashton. She is inspired by many Australian artists and the great Italian masters, as well as Mexican and Asian art.
Her latest body of work is the product of living in Leura in the upper Blue Mountains. Jude’s art has been likened to silk embroidery and tapestries from the 18th century. Gardens and structured composition play a big part in her approach. Jude has more recently adopted figurative compositions as part of her subject matter:
‘I love the tactile quality of working into the wood with thousands of pencil strokes to create a rich yet soft texture. The varying grain of the wood adds another element in the unworked spaces. I find this medium ideal for conveying my passion for the female form while also expressing the gentle strength of women. In contrast the use of oils, my other medium, provides an intense richness of colour through multiple layers of glazing. The verdant bushland and magnificent gardens of the mountains are my endless source of inspiration.

John Martono’s abstract works, which blend painting with hand embroidery on silk, offer a fresh and distinctive perspective within Indonesia’s contemporary fine arts scene. His innovative approach combines the precision of textile science, the artistry of embroidery, and the fluidity of painting on silk—each requiring a specialized technique that has become his signature form of expression.
With a background as a textile designer and years of experience as a lecturer, alongside a Master’s degree in Design from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), John masterfully intertwines these diverse elements, resulting in striking and elegant works of art.
Artist Statement:
The Journey of Happiness is a realization of a process that after all this time concepting and working in fine arts that in and on itself is its own happiness.
Throughout the various situations that accompany this creative process I personally calls it as happiness in every details.
Situation in the form of individual feelings becomes a stimulus in a work that is born with the intensity of process from time to time. A situation that exist outside of my experience become one of my responsive thinking spaces so that I also have to distance myself from all these
events in order to get sufficient points of reflection. In essence, thinking about appearance in an imaginative context is the search for knowledge on a broad horizon.

Yvonne Gallagher is a Malaysian-born Australian contemporary artist whose work is shaped by a life lived across cultures and coastlines. Having lived in Kuala Lumpur, Bermuda, and Dublin before settling in Sydney, her global journey informs both her artistic perspective and visual language.
A self-taught painter with a professional background in finance, Yvonne brings analytical discipline and structural clarity into a deeply expressive creative practice. She continues to reflect a rare fusion of logic and intuition, precision and spontaneity. This duality underpins her steady rise as an emerging artist whose works are increasingly collected internationally.
Based in Sydney Northern Beaches, Yvonne paints from within the elements rather than observing from afar. Whether sailing, paddle boarding, swimming, or travelling by ferry, she captures landscapes as they are experienced from the water itself — immersive, expansive, and alive. Working primarily in thick impasto acrylic, she builds textured, light-filled compositions defined by layered surfaces and luminous blues and greens that evoke movement, tranquillity, and horizon-bound freedom.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Ken Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York, Van Gogh Gallery in Madrid, Red Dot Miami, and the World Art Fair in Paris. As a globally exhibited emerging artist, Gallagher continues to cultivate a growing collector base across different corners of the world while remaining grounded in her passion for the ocean and the everyday beauty it offers.

For Yvonne Gallagher, the ocean is both subject and sanctuary.
Travel serves as the quiet engine of her creativity. Each coastline, harbour, and horizon expands the way she sees and experiences the world. Living by the sea has transformed her perspective: she paints landscapes not from the shore, but from within them. Whether on a paddle board, sailing across open water, or immersed in the stillness of the blue hour just after sunset, she works from direct experience of the elements she seeks to capture.
Her palette is dominated by blues and greens — colours that echo calm, depth, and renewal. Working in thick impasto acrylic, Yvonne builds layered surfaces from dark to light, allowing underlying tones to reveal themselves through texture and gesture. Each painting begins with a considered structure, reflecting her finance background, yet within that framework she allows intuitive movement and expressive mark-making that mirror the rhythm of the sea.
Drawn to the horizon as a symbol of possibility and transition, Yvonne creates immersive compositions that invite viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the expansive energy of nature. Her practice embodies balance — between discipline and freedom, structure and spontaneity, profession and passion – as she continues to explore what it means to see the world anew and share that vision through paint.

Kate Pittas is a Brisbane-based contemporary landscape painter, exploring her own experiences of the Australian bush. Her work is expressive, and delves into themes of nostalgia, memory
and connection.
Hitting the road and discovering or revisiting regional and remote locations in Australia provides Kate with personal experiences she can work with back in her home studio in the bushy outer suburbs of Brisbane. Having studied Visual Arts at university, Kate taught in Sydney high schools for close to a decade before transitioning away from the classroom and into her current full-time practice and career as a painter, which she relishes.
