Born c1952
Died 2013 Region Mina Mina,Lake Mackay, Tanami Desert NTVale Dorothy Napangardi Language Warlpiri The artist was in Brisbane in April launching a new painting exhibition as well as her fabulous commissioned carpet design at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Dorothy’s work had also been recently pre-selected for a forthcoming major survey exhibition of Australian art at the Royal Academy in London. Living for the greater part of her life in Alice Springs, Dorothy began painting in 1987 with generic ‘bush tucker’ designs. Dorothy’s recent paintings depict elaborate and elegant interpretations of country, including concentrations of finely veiled grids over predominantly white or black grounds. In 2001, Dorothy won the coveted Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award for a black and white work, Salt on Mina Mina. In 2002, Dorothy held a major survey of her work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Her works feature in private and public collections, such as those in the National Gallery of Australia and National Gallery of Victoria, as well as in international collections in Germany, USA and the Netherlands |

Harvey Galleries was founded by the Harvey family in 1994 with an eye to establish a dynamic and inclusive contemporary art space on the North Shore of Sydney. For almost three decades we have expanded our reach to over three gallery locations and an ever expanding stable of the best artists Australia has to offer.
Harvey Galleries acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which our galleries stand. The Guringai people (Seaforth), the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation (Sydney), and the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation (Melbourne).
We pay our respect to Elders past and present.
Always be the first to know about exhibitions, events and new art releases.
