ARTIST STATEMENT:

‘Nature Walk’ is an abstract representation of scenery drawing on the fond memories I have of my grandfather and father taking me on walks in nature. The important relationships I had with the paternal figures in my life are honoured by the cool soothing masculine tones and vigorous strokes while my own personality unconsciously presents itself in the feminine lines and movements as well as the vibrant colours I associate with my personal growth.

My work is often influenced by the natural world and my fondest memories often take place within it. As a many-layered textural exhibition, ‘Nature Walk’ highlights the nuances of the organic environment and the mark- making process has allowed me to create a sculptural and eye-catching homage to the landscapes of my childhood.

The movement of each sweeping stroke follows in the path of the stroke before it but is uniquely characterised by its own variations in tone, and shape, much like the legacies passed down from generation to generation.

Felicia Aroney

 

Felicia Aroney is Western Australian born, now living and working in Sydney as a leading contemporary artist.

Felicia draws inspiration from her European heritage and Australian environment. Working with oils and acrylics, her distinctive abstracted floral works, and contemporary abstracts she utilise a highly sculptural mark-making process.

Using a palette knife to layer and shape the paint until it stands relief from the canvas. Felicia’s mixed media works are a delicate combination of collage, acrylic, oil and brush mark making.

Her paintings evoke a sense of history and antiquity mixed with all things Australian. A wonderful synergy of her European heritage and Australian background.

Felicia was a finalist in the high profile Mosman Art Fair Prize.
