H33509 Royal Buck

The world can be a wild place. To make your mark, sometimes you need to unleash the beast within. Johnny Romeo explores this sentiment with incendiary flair in the painting Royal Buck. In the work, Romeo depicts a neon-drenched tiger growling ferociously as flames erupt from their eyes amidst a backdrop of explosive hues. Bursting forth from the canvas with savage defiance, the ferocious feline acts as a powerful symbol for us to embrace our wild side and take on life head on. Romeo’s tiger is proud, emboldened, and ready to strike, its burning gaze smoldering with absolute determination. Unhinged and hell-bent on conquest, the tiger is a fierce embodiment of the inner animal that lives within us and demands to be set free. This idea of giving in to our primal instincts as a radical form of freedom is cleverly captured in the word assemblage Tamed Up, which is subtly altered to create the rousing declaration ‘Flamed Up’. Read within this context, the word ‘Growl’ becomes a powerful call to action to be loud, larger than life and unapologetically true to ourselves. There is a fun, energetic vibe to ‘Growl’ that recalls the youthful rebellion of 80s and 90s skateboarding culture as it reappropriates the font of iconic Californian skate brand Santa Cruz. Romeo rounds off the painting on a cheeky, hedonistic note with the title Royal Buck, transforming his fiery feline into the ultimate hustler looking to chase the big bucks.
