WHATEVER! – LIMITED EDITION PRINTS

To celebrate his electrifying new Sydney exhibition, Whatever!, critically acclaimed Australian Pop painter will be launching two exclusive, limited edition prints alongside his collection of vibrant original paintings. Full of the bold imagery, breathtaking colour arrangements and punchy Pop culture mashups we have come to expect from Australia’s King of Pop, the prints perfectly compliment Romeo’s neon-drenched explorations of self-discovery and the revolutionary powers of ‘Whatever!’. In Never Mind, Romeo conjures the raw-knuckled intensity of 90s grunge music, delivering a knockout rendition of Nirvana’s lead singer Kurt Cobain as a bare-chested skeleton that is as sure to ‘Shock’ you as it is to ‘Rock’ you. While Nirvana’s nihilistic anthems introduced a whole generation to the notion of ‘whatever’ as an outlook of disillusionment, Romeo injects a sense of love and Poptimism into grunge’s bleak worldview by including a vibrant red heart into the print. Sunset Sound continues to ride this wave of positivity, portraying an adventure-loving bear cub surfing the colourful crests of Hokusai’s ‘Great Wave’. Embodying the spirit of the red sun behind him, the bear cub courageously rides towards an unknown horizon bolstered by the sun-kissed tunes of California’s beloved Sunset Sound recording studio, a symbol of hope for all who dare to not only ‘Ride’ but ‘Rise’.

Johnny Romeo is an internationally acclaimed Australian painter. Considered Australia’s leading Pop artist, Romeo is spearheading the global Neo-Expressionist Pop movement with his electrifying collision of rock’n’roll swagger, comic book aesthetics and street art. Described by GQ Magazine Australia as ‘part punk, part pop’, Romeo’s Kitsch Pop works are explosive sugar rushes of Technicolour imagery and urban grittiness that are turning heads worldwide.
