Take a deep dive into the mind’s eye of enlightenment in Johnny Romeo’s Bullet Proof Vision. The artwork masterfully blends arcane psychedelia with striking Kitsch Pop imagery through its portrayal of a trippy Sphynx cat with three eyes gazing at the observer with the intensity of an ancient lunar oracle peering into the mystical haze of future days. Romeo’s divine feline humbly began their life as a stray cat but has since ascended to the heightened consciousness of a Hindu mystic, developing a third eye that offers them the ability to see beyond the ordinary. Gifted with bullet proof vision, Romeo’s sacred Sphinx cat cuts through the chaotic noise of the contemporary world to find meaning amongst the infinite possibilities we face in everyday life. From here, Romeo takes the painting in a decidedly humorous direction, using the clever wordplay of ‘Stay Stray Fresh’ to transform his pious feline into a bona fide cool cat who has found spiritual enlightenment through an uncanny ability to stay fresh and fashionable. ‘Freshness’ is further explored through the term ‘Paw,’ whose font is appropriated from beloved American skate brand Santa Cruz. Romeo plays with our perception of the word in the painting, which can be interpreted as both ‘Paw’ and ‘Pow.’ The onomatopoeia of ‘Pow’ injects Bullet Proof Vision with a lively Pop energy that evokes the frenzy of modern life, while ‘paw’ acts as a meditative counterbalance, urging us to use our paws to stay grounded in an over-stimulated world.

Exhibition artwork will be shipped once the exhibition closes and for an Art of Dr. Seuss purchase, please allow 14 – 16 weeks for delivery from date of purchase.
The average time for dispatch for all other artworks is approximately 5 business days, depending on availability and payment arrangements.
